100% record remains after Reilly rounds off victory over Forfar

Katie ReillySpartans sit top of the SWPL 1 table after making it back to back victories at the beginning of the campaign, seeing off 10-man Forfar 3-1 at a sunny Ainslie Park.
Suzy Shepherd’s side got off to a perfect start midway through the second half when Alana Marshall was upended on the edge of the box. The Spartans playmaker dusted herself down before dispatching the spot kick home.

Amy Gallacher’s lung bursting run from the halfway line saw her respond almost immediately for the visitors with a fine solo effort.
Forfar’s celebrations were short lived however when Robyn Smith was shown a red card for an off the ball incident in front of her own dug out, leaving them to see out the rest of the match with 10 players.
Spartans regained the lead on the hour mark when an Alana Marshall corner forced a goal line stramash before Mariel Kaney finally nodded the ball over the line.
Ten minutes later, Spartans secured all three points when Kaney fed Katie Reilly an inch perfect pass into the Forfar penalty box and the home captain wrapped up the win with a first time strike into the back of the net.

Speaking after the game, Manager Suzy Shepherd said, “Naturally I’m delighted to have a 100% record after two tough fixtures to begin the season with.
“There’s not going to be any easy games this season in the new 8-team format & we are just taking them one at a time. Credit to the players for the hard work they are putting in on the training ground & then taking it into games.”
