It is with regret that we announce the departure of Diana Barry and Elliss Jenkins from Spartans.
Di joined Spartans when it was formed in 2008 and played in 130 competitive matches out of a possible 147. Di will always be regarded as the first Spartans legend, all time top goal scorer with an incredible 133 goals in 130 games for the club. In the 2010 season Di scored a record 43 goals in league and cup fixtures.
Elliss joined Spartans at the beginning of 2013 and has shown great promise during her short spell with the club. Elliss made 26 appearances for the first team last season and 1 appearance for the Reserves, scoring 5 goals.
Spartans wish both players all the best for the future.
Commenting on the game against Brazil, Lana said ” The score line didn’t reflect the game, we played some good football and had more chances than Brazil did! They are a top side, so to give them a good game shows how far our country has come”.
“On our day off we got to go stand up paddle boarding and windsurfing it was so much fun”.
Commenting on the game v Chile, Lana said “What an amazing atmosphere, such a hard game to come into we were 3v2 down and lost a goal pretty quickly to make it 4 before Sarah pulled one back to make it 4v3! it was a great experience getting my 3rd cap here in Brazil and now we play Canada on Sunday in the placing match which I am really looking forward to!
Lana catches a bit of sight seeing. “This is the Brasilia Cathedral designed in 1970 by Oscar Niemeyer who died in 2012 aged 104! We also visited Alex Ellis the British Ambassador to Brazil since July 2013 after a period as Director for Strategy at the Foreign Office”.
Lana was then of to the Garrincha Stadium for the Canada game and although she didn’t get on the experience must have been fantastic. Lana said “It was a disappointing result but the girls played outstanding and were unlucky to go a goal down early on as we were on top! Overall great experience to be a part of! I am looking forward to playing hosts Brazil on Sunday”.
Lana flew out from Edinburgh Airport on Monday morning headed for Brazil with the Women’s National Team.
Today Lana experienced the impressive Garrincha Stadium where the team will play all three of their friendly matches against Canada, Brazil and Chile. Lana said ” the stadium is unbelievable, to play here will be a fantastic experience”.
The Mané Garrincha Stadium was demolished in 2010 to give way to a new stadium with a capacity of 71,000 fans and in order to reach the requirements for the 2014 World Cup.
