Mike hopes to be mechanic of Durham’s downfall

Mike03Spartans pre-season campaign continues this Sunday when they welcome WSL2 side Durham to the Capital for a cross-border challenge match.

The Ainslie Park side got off to a winning start last weekend with a 2-1 win over fellow SWPL outfit Queen’s Park and Head Coach Mike Ross says the victory has offered an early boost to the pre-season schedule. (more…)

Scotland Training Camp call-ups for Spartans trio

GK01Rachel Harrison, Lana Clelland and teenager Eartha Cummings have been invited to attend this weekend’s National training camps at Toryglen.

Ahead of the meeting, Spartans goalkeeper Rachel Harrison spoke of her delight at being selected, “I’m absolutely thrilled at being one of the four goalkeepers who have been offered the opportunity.  I was fortunate enough to have been invited last year and relish the opportunity to join the squad session again.  I think it shows to anyone that if you work hard enough, it will pay off and eventually you’ll get a chance.” (more…)

Spartans kick-off at home as fixtures unveiled

celeb8Spartans Women will kick-off their league campaign with a home fixture against Hamilton Accies on March 16th as the curtain raises on the SWPL season.

Debbi McCulloch’s side also entertain Accies, who finished top of the bottom half of last season’s split, at the Academy on the 9th February in a pre-season friendly.

Then the Ainslie Park side head along the M8 for the first of three back-to-back games against Glaswegian opposition. (more…)

Spartans avoid Spiders web of defeat in pre-season opener

20140126-2O2A0158Spartans got their pre-season off to a winning start, defeating SWPL newcomers Queen’s Park 2-1 at Ainslie Park.

Goals by last season’s top scorer Sarah Ewens and recent signing Tracy Donachie helped secure a victory against the Spiders.

Manager Debbi McCulloch was happy with the win however it was the ‘getting back on the park’ that pleased her most. (more…)

Spartans gear up for Pre-Season

celeb8Spartans Women will face a duo of teams from the newly formed English Women’s Super League in a quartet of pre-season friendlies to begin this Sunday.

Debbi McCulloch’s squad get their first taste of football in 2014 against SWPL 1 newcomers Queen’s Park.

The Spiders travel to Ainslie Park as last season’s SWFL 1st Division Champions and will no doubt be keen to use the friendly as a benchmark of what’s ahead of them in the top flight.

Next up sees the first of two friendlies against sides from the North East of England.

FA Women’s Super League 2 side Durham WFC head north on the 2nd February, in what promises to be a tough cross-Border encounter. (more…)
