Penalty poser leaves Debbi “in disbelief” as Spartans draw with Gers

Debbi01An early Sarah Ewens strike was cancelled out by a Megan Sneddon second half header in an end to end SWPL clash which saw Debbi McCulloch’s side maintain their unbeaten run against Rangers this season.

A contentious 73rd minute penalty claim however left Spartans Manager Debbi McCulloch “in disbelief” after seeing her side denied a spot kick during the 1-1 draw. (more…)

Home, Home on the Range(r) as Spartans return from tour of duty

2O2A8139Spartans make their only home appearance during August on Sunday when they welcome Rangers Ladies to Ainslie Park.

Rangers make the trip East to the Capital having been in midweek action, losing out 3-1 to league leaders Glasgow City.

The fight for second place therefore continues this week with the Top 6 teams jockeying for the best possible outcome come November. (more…)

McGill’s side have plenty in Reserve as South are hit for six

Sophie01A hat-trick by teenager Sophie Cunningham helped Spartans Reserves secure a 1-6 win over Edinburgh South in their latest SWF Division 2 South East league outing.

Walter McGill’s side were keen to get back to winning ways and were forced to come from a goal down to secure the three points to remain in 3rd place. (more…)

Bish Bosh Trish – Spartans Centurion grabs a double but Celtic hold on

trish goalA Trish McLaughlin double in her 100th Spartans appearance set up a tense finale at Barrowfield however hosts Celtic held on to record a 3-2 win in another closely fought clash between the sides.

Manager Debbi McCulloch made a few changes to the side that defeated Forfar in the Scottish Cup the previous weekend, with Claire Crosbie and Kirsty McLaughlin given places in the starting XI. (more…)

Tic Talk – It’s Celtic time as the Spartans roadtrip continues

2O2A8961Spartans finish their August tour as they head west for their final leg of a hat-trick of back-to-back away days with a trip to Barrowfield to take on Celtic in Round 14 of the SWPL.

This weekend sees yet another series of close encounters of an SWPL kind with just four points separating 5th from 2nd place as the chasing pack seek to pounce on any Glasgow City slip-ups between now and early November. (more…)

Scottish Cup Quarter Final Draw: It’s Inverness at Home

2O2A0161After their late goal-rush against Forfar in their 2-5 Third Round win last weekend, Spartans have been rewarded with a home tie against Inverness City in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup.

Debbi McCulloch’s side will face the fellow SWPL outfit on Sunday 28th September at Ainslie Park.   It’ll be the first time this season Spartans will play a Cup tie in front of their home support as the search for silverware continues. (more…)
