Spartans at the double in Edinburgh Derby win

Teenager Ronaigh Douglas broke her SWPL goal scoring duck as she rounded off an impressive Spartans display in a 0-10 victory against Hutchison Vale at Saughton Enclosure.

Spartans Manager Debbi McCulloch was determined not to have a repeat of last season’s outcome at the same venue against her fellow Edinburgh opponents and later praised her side for a “pleasing performance from every player who controlled the game and scored some quality goals.” (more…)

Morgan Mitchell signs for Spartans

Morgan MitchellSpartans are delighted to announce the signing of American Morgan Mitchell who previously played for Armstrong State University in Savannah Georgia and for the Atlanta Silverbacks in the Women’s Pro-Am Soccer League.
Morgan began her Armstrong career as a midfielder but flourished as a forward, earning 2012 conference Player of the Year honors as a senior, she scored 47 goals in 90 matches for ASU. She was a four-time All-Conference and All-Region performer and earned All-American honours.

Morgan touched down in Scotland on Wednesday and immediately joined the squad for a training session at the Academy. After a conditioning session tonight (Thursday) and a further training session on Friday, Morgan will be included in the squad for Sunday’s Premier League match when Spartans visit Hutchison Vale in a 1:00 kick-off at Sauagton Park.

SWPL League Cup penalty pain for Spartans

The lottery of penalty kicks ended Spartans bid to reach the SWPL League Cup Semi Final after the teams couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes of football against Hibs Ladies at Albyn Park.

Ahead of the match, the ground fell silent as players, backroom staff and supporters observed a minute silence for former Spartans Youth starlet Cammy Armstrong who sadly lost his battle against cancer earlier in the week. (more…)

Rangers wreak revenge as Spartans succumb to SWPL defeat

Its honours even in the East v West tests between Spartans and Rangers so far this season as the Glasgow outfit gained revenge for their earlier Cup KO with a 0-4 win at Ainslie Park.

Spartans Manager Debbi McCulloch offered places on the bench to youngsters Cara Targett-Ness and Chloe Gilhooley, two teenagers who have been performing well at age grade and Reserve football this season so far.

With no fixtures for a full four weeks, both sides set out their stalls at a frantic pace determined to extend their respective unbeaten runs. (more…)

Beveridge looking for 3 points of cheer as SWPL Sundays return

2O2A8716-6After a four week break, Spartans return to SWPL action on Sunday against Rangers Ladies, with both sides undefeated in the early rounds of the 2015 league campaign.

With two competitive wins under her side’s belt so far, Bobbie Beveridge, in her 7th season at Ainslie Park, can’t wait to get back on the pitch to add to the impressive 91 appearances in Spartans colours gained so far.
