Stalwart striker Smollet signs off for stint in Singapore

2O2A5372Anne Smollet signed off her Spartans career on Sunday in style with a goal in her side’s 7-1 win against Hutchie Vale Development.

Smollet will be putting her scoring shoes in storage just for now as she heads for Singapore to pursue a new challenge in her work life.

Women’s Chairperson Walter McGill said of Smollet, “Anne has been with our Reserve team for as long as we have been Spartans – since 2008.  Anne has been a reliable player who just gets on with it, whatever you ask her to do on the pitch, she is dedicated to the cause.” (more…)

McCulloch takes heart as Spartans secure SWPL Top 6 spot

2O2A1735Spartans will play SWPL Top 6 football after the summer break after defeating Hearts 0-4 in the first top-flight Edinburgh Derby between the two sides.

3 goals in a frantic six minute first half spell ensured Debbi McCulloch’s side broke the Jam Tarts hearts and made inroads on securing a vital win at a blustery Kings Park in Dalkeith. (more…)

SWPL and Reserves sides in action ahead of summer recess

2O2A1735Spartans Women head into Sunday’s SWPL Edinburgh Derby against Hearts in the final pre-summer recess fixture of the 2015 campaign.

The match, being played on grass at King’s Park in Dalkeith, kicks off on Sunday at 2pm and a big Spartan Army support is welcomed to cheer the team on.  (more…)

Spartans bow out in Scottish Cup mixed bag for SWPL sides

Spartans bowed out of the Scottish Cup against holders Glasgow City at Ainslie Park in a day that saw a cricket score, an SWPL scalp and a withdrawal in the 2nd Round of the national competition.

Katie Reilly handed the Captain’s armband to keeper Rachel Harrison after being forced to sit out the game due to injury.  Harrison was herself returning to the side following a spell on the sideline. (more…)

Lady luck deserts Spartans as Pullar pinches points for Students

Screen Shot 2014-01-04 at 16.13.12Spartans will head into an Edinburgh Derby pre-split final day showdown against Hearts in two weeks time, knowing they will need a win to secure Top 6 status after the summer recess following Stirling’s smash and grab win at Ainslie Park.

With Rachel Harrison losing her late fitness test battle, it was a return between the sticks for teenager keeper Eartha Cumings, who had secured clean sheets in her previous two SWPL outings so far this season. (more…)

McCulloch seeks sterling effort in Stirling University challenge

Debbi01Manager Debbi McCulloch will be looking for her Spartans side to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they welcome Stirling Uni to Ainslie Park for Round 9 of the SWPL campaign.

In what is the penultimate fixture of the opening round of fixtures pre-split, Spartans enter the game looking for a win that will secure a place in the Top 6 in the second half of the season. (more…)
