Spartans push Glasgow to their City limits in narrow defeat

Two second half goals were enough to separate Spartans and Glasgow City in the Airdrie sunshine at the Excelsior Stadium, a scoreline that flattered the hosts and left the Ainslie Park side disappointed not to return to the Capital with at least a point to show for their efforts.

The early stages of the game were played out akin to a chess match with both sides taking time to work out their next move in an attempt to gain the upper hand.

City had much of the opening period of possession however it was the defence of the visitors that held firm throughout, leaving Scott Booth’s side frustrated. (more…)

Fish nets five in SparTON Reserves rout

Lindsay_Cowan_150Lynsey Cowan’s Reserves moved a step closer to securing a SWF 2nd Division promotion spot with an emphatic 17 (Seventeen) Nil win over Edinburgh South at Ainslie Park.

Ashley Fish’s 90th minute strike, her fifth of the afternoon, was the 100th goal the Reserves had scored in League duty this season so far, an average of just over 6 per game. (more…)

SWPL side head West whilst Reserves face South

Logo1For just the second time this month, Spartans go into SWPL battle as they head to Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium to take on Glasgow City.

Debbi McCulloch’s side will be looking to continue where they left off earlier this month when goals from Alana Marshall and Sarah Ewens gave Spartans a 2-0 win over Rangers at Ainslie Park.

City may have the upper hand in terms of head to head battles so far this season but McCulloch’s side ran the league leaders close last time out when Lady Luck clearly hadn’t included the Academy on her tour of duty that day. (more…)

Suzy Shepherd unveiled as new Manager of Spartans SWPL side

Suzy_Robertson_240Spartans have today unveiled Suzy Shepherd as their new SWPL Manager, with the former Internationalist set to take charge officially at the end of the 2015 campaign.

Currently the SFA South East Region Under’16s Assistant Coach, Shepherd will take over the reigns as Manager from Debbi McCulloch who announced in August of her intention to stand down at the end of the current season.  (more…)

International Football this coming Tuesday at Ainslie Park

International Football returns once again to Ainslie Park this week when Pauline Hamill’s Scotland Women’s U16 squad welcome Finland to the Capital for a challenge match double-header.

Scotland will play Finland on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th with the first game a pay-at-the-door event with a 7pm kick-off.

Spartans Under 9’s have a ball

U9 Festival

Spartans Girls Under 9’s enjoyed a day of fun at the Academy when they hosted a 4v4 Football Festival.

Spartans coach Zsolt Jakri said “Sunday was a great success, 5 clubs were involved with 9 teams joining the three Spartans teams.  In total we had 50 kids attending creating a great atmosphere with lots of great football on show”.
