Thursday 3rd. August 2006 - SCOTLAND HOLD FINLAND TO A GOALLESS DRAW
A solid defensive performance earned Scotland women's team a draw in tonight's International Challenge Match against Finland in Perth. The Finnish team, currently ranked 3 in Europe and 14 in the World, found it hard to break down Scotland's well organised defence. Finland created some good goalscoring chances during the game but Scotland equally created some good opportunities on which they couldn't capitalise.
This match was a good test for Scotland who came out of this with a credible performance and result ,and actually finished the stronger side at the end of the game. National coach Anna Signeul commented on the match: "Scotland played a strong and fast game and proved to be very good at set pieces...we did well defending and attacking. I am very pleased with the development of the side, Finland are good opponents, today shows we are almost there to compete well at this level and that feels really good."

The match is part of both teams preparation for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification campaign, the finals of which take place in China in 2007. Under coach Anna Signeul, (pictured right) Scotland have performed well in this World Cup Qualification group where they currently sit third in their group behind World and European Champions Germany and Russia.
