Spartans F.C. Women are delighted to announce Alana Marshall has become the club’s first ever semi-pro player having signed a one year deal.
Marshall was a key player of Debbi McCulloch’s squad last season and will continue in her role of Captain. With 20 appearances and 4 goals in season 2020/21, the 34-year-old continues to impress and have positive impact in SWPL 1.
After putting pen to paper, Marshall said: “I am absolutely over the moon to be signing a semi pro contract. I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity with a club I love and admire so much. I will be forever grateful to everyone who has made this a reality.”
“I think this season is going to be even tougher than last year and there is no room for teams to be complacent. We did really well last season and proved a lot of people wrong and I have no doubt we are heading in the right direction and will continue to improve.”
Manager Debbi McCulloch, is delighted to secure Marshall’s services for the forthcoming season. She said: “Last season we saw how important having players of Alana’s experience is. She is a versatile player and always gives 100% on the pitch. Her ability to create goals is also a threat and I look forward to working with Alana to achieve our goals.”
McCulloch added: “The club has worked immensely hard over the past 12 months to restructure the infrastructure of the club and thankfully the board sees the importance of investing in our SWPL 1 squad. This will provide us with high performance environment, first class training/playing facilities and the opportunity to invest in players who have given so much to the club over the years. It will also allow us to attract new players and provide a professional environment”.
Spartans will continue their preseason preparations by welcoming Boroughmuir Thistle next Sunday (3pm kick off) to Ainslie Park Stadium.
