Armband honour for Marshall as playmaker re-signs for Spartans

Spartans are delighted to announce that Alana Marshall has re-signed for the Club and will be the SWPL 1 Team Captain for the 2017 season.

Following her stint abroad, last year’s Goal of the Season award winner has put pen to paper once again and is looking forward to playing a pivotal part in the Club’s success in the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking ahead of the side’s trip to Durham for their first pre-season outing, an ebullient Marshall said, “I am really happy to be back at Spartans.

“Spartans has a special place in my heart and I’ve made a lot of good memories here.  A lot of my team mates over the years have grown into being my best friends both on and off the park.

“I’m overwhelmed at being handed the Captain’s armband for this season.  This means a lot to me, especially at this point in my career.  Spartans have had some amazing Captains in the past and I hope I can step up and be just as good.”

Head Coach Suzy Shepherd said of Marshall’s return, “I am very pleased to get Alana back at the Club – and earlier than expected too.  She’s a big player for us and we certainly missed her energy and drive on and off the park when she left last season.

“Naming Alana as Captain was an easy choice for me.  She brings us experience, quality and leadership and I know she will be more than able to rise to the challenge that this offers.”
