Beveridge looking for 3 points of cheer as SWPL Sundays return

Beveridge said, “We’ve been working exceptionally hard over the last few weeks but it’s now getting to the point that we are all chomping at the bit to get playing again and put into practice what we’ve been doing on the training pitch.

“Rangers are always a tricky opponent for us and the narrow scorelines over the years reflects this however I felt the way we played against them the last time saw us having the bulk of possession, looking comfortable on the ball and despite it being early in the season, gelling well as a team and it allowed us to come away with the result we wanted.”

For Manager Debbi McCulloch, the period of match day inactivity has almost been akin to another pre-season schedule however last year’s SWPL Manager of the Year is delighted at the way her side have maintained their focus ahead of Sunday’s game against Rangers.

“It’s been a frustrating four weeks in terms of trying to keep the players sharp and focussed however we have a fantastic set of girls here who have worked incredibly hard to maintain the moment which they will carry into Sunday’s game.

“It’s important that we gain full points from this game and that’s our goal.  You always go in with the hope that playing on our home ground will be to your advantage however the players must focus on what they need to do and what their job is and make sure that they perform because it doesn’t matter where you play, without those things you won’t come out on top against a talented Rangers side.”

A late Sarah Ewens strike separated the sides last time out however McCulloch expects a different type of game than they faced on League Cup duty in the Siberian-esque conditions at Garscube.

McCulloch noted, “It’ll be a very different ninety minutes this time. The intensity of one-off Cup games can often be contrasting to that of a league encounter and we need to understand that and respect it from the first whistle.”

The match at Ainslie Park kicks off at 1pm.
