League Cup signals season start for Shepherd’s Spartans

Suzy_Shepherd01Spartans Manager Suzy Shepherd and Captain Katie Reilly both reckon Sunday’s League Cup opening round clash against Stirling University has come at the right time for their side, one which has been enriched by a host of pre-season signings.

The League Cup tournament kicks-off the 2016 season on Sunday at Ainslie Park with both clubs equally keen to get out the traps quickly and secure a morale boosting win in the first competitive match of the year.

Both sides will be involved in the newly formed SWPL 1 league however its early bragging rights at stake come 1pm. (more…)

Reilly in rally call for last home game of league campaign

2O2A5830Its East v West in the penultimate game of SWPL 2015 as Spartans take on Celtic at Ainslie Park with Captain Katie Reilly looking for her team to end their home campaign on a high.

SWPL side head West whilst Reserves face South

Logo1For just the second time this month, Spartans go into SWPL battle as they head to Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium to take on Glasgow City.

Debbi McCulloch’s side will be looking to continue where they left off earlier this month when goals from Alana Marshall and Sarah Ewens gave Spartans a 2-0 win over Rangers at Ainslie Park.

City may have the upper hand in terms of head to head battles so far this season but McCulloch’s side ran the league leaders close last time out when Lady Luck clearly hadn’t included the Academy on her tour of duty that day. (more…)

Comeback Canuck boost for McCulloch ahead of Rangers tie

2O2A8825-65Spartans welcome Rangers to Ainslie Park on Sunday in their penultimate home match of the 2015 season.

In the corresponding fixture after the post-Top 6 split, the sides played out a fantastic nine-goal thriller at the home of Benburb Juniors where a stunning Carla Jackson goal earned Spartans a last gasp 4-5 win after being 2-0 down in the early stages of the match. (more…)
