Douglas Next Up to Sign Semi-Pro Contract

We are delighted to confirm full-back Ronaigh Douglas as our latest semi-professional signing. Douglas has committed her future to the club by signing a 12-month contract. A product of our Girls Academy, Ronaigh has been at Spartans since the age of five years old, and with 136 senior appearances to her name so far, she continues to play an important part in Debbi McCulloch’s SWPL 1 team.

On signing a one-year deal, Ronaigh said: “I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to sign a semi-professional contract at a club that’s been a part of my life for the last 18 years. The club has shaped me into the person I am today and I am so proud to be a part of such a special club that does so much for the surrounding community.”

Douglas was keen to reflect on last season and look ahead to the forthcoming SWPL 1 season. She said: “Despite the pandemic, last season was one of our most consistent and resilient seasons and I look forward to playing an important part in achieving more this season. Last year, we became much closer as a team, on and off the pitch, and I am excited for the challenges that this season will bring as competition in the league continues to grow.”

Manager Debbi McCulloch said: “Ronaigh has been a part of the club for so many years and this announcement shows our Academy players what is possible with hard work and perseverance. We work closely with the Girls Academy as we want players to progress within our player pathway and Ronaigh is proof that this is fully achievable. It’s fantastic for our Academy players to have someone like Ronaigh as a positive role model.”
