Spartans and Hibernian earned the plaudits from those watching online from the relative warmth and comfort of their sitting rooms as they played out and entertaining 1-1 in the dreich Scottish summer conditions at Ainslie Park.
The opening half looked as if the players were heading to the sheds on level pegging, only for Caley Gibb to have other thoughts on her mind. She collected the ball eight yards out following fine build up play by Sarah Clelland and her deflected effort wrong footed the Hibernian keeper to give her side the lead.
The rain certainly didn’t dampen the players’ enthusiasm throughout a fiercely competitive mid-table tussle with the conditions offering some engaging sliding challenges that resulted in mixed outcomes from the man in the middle for those involved.
With ten minutes left on the clock, the ‘hosts’ levelled proceedings following a free-kick into the box that was despatched by Leah Eddie setting up a grandstand finish.
The game was hanging in the balance as both sides looked to press for the winner. It may have come for Hibs, only for an outstanding last gasp save from Rachel Harrison.
