Spartans FC are today delighted to confirm the signing of American-born, Lauren Berman.
Lauren is a pacey forward, joining us after gaining valuable coaching experience from Harvard University, coaching the Women’s NCAA set-up. In her playing career, Lauren started all 61 of her college appearances with Boston College scoring 14 goals with 18 assists. The Canton, Massachusetts native was captain of the side in 2017, when she was named the New England Midfielder of the Year and was the Eagles’ MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
After leaving college, Lauren joined MTK Hungaria FC in Budapest, where she spent two seasons. Berman helped the side to first and second placed finishes, standings that earned the American Champions League experience.
After putting pen-to-paper, Lauren stated:
“Spartans really appealed to me as it is a top club, well established for a number of years in the SWPL. The community aspect of the club was also a major pull, the way both the Men’s and Women’s side are connected to the local community is really inspiring. I’ve been on trial here a couple times now, and the way the girls welcomed me has helped me settle a lot. It’s been a really enjoyable experience so far and I can’t wait for the league to start come Sunday!”
On her latest recruit, Head Coach Debbi McCulloch stated:
“Lauren is a fantastic addition to our squad and is a player who we have been interested in signing for some time now. Her qualities on the pitch include great creativity on the ball, the ability to play a final pass to create goal scoring opportunities and her work rate off the ball. Off the pitch she adds maturity, composure and experience to our squad. We are all very much looking forward to working with Lauren over the next two seasons.”
Lauren will wear the number 7 shirt when the side start their SWPL campaign this Sunday (13th), you can catch them in action with a Spartans season ticket, available for purchase on Sunday at Ainslie Park.
