Striker Rosie McQuillan has joined Spartans F.C. on a one year semi-pro deal from Rangers Women F.C. The 17 year old was a part of the Rangers Women Academy and continued her development at the club with both the first team and under-19 squad before going out on loan to SWPL 2 side Glasgow Girls & Women F.C. back in December 2020.
With a smile on her face, McQuillan discussed what it means to sign for Spartans: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Spartans for the upcoming season. It is a club I have always admired and after speaking to Debbi about the clubs ambitions and plans for the future it was an offer I couldn’t turn down.”
“I believe that this is the place for me to take my football to the next level. After seeing the facilities and meeting all the girls and staff, I knew it was the obvious and right choice for me. The standard and application from all the girls at training is something that will really help push me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to play with such quality and experienced players.”
“I’m really excited to be back playing in the SWPL 1 as it has the potential to be the most challenging and exciting season for everyone. Our aim is top 4 and it is something we are more than capable of achieving. On a personal level, I want to be competing against the best teams in Scotland and contribute to the team by scoring goals.”
Manager McCulloch was thrilled to be adding a “striker who will score goals” to a squad that is hungry to compete and win. She said: “Rosie trained with us last week and you could see from the impact she had in training that she would add quality to our squad so we were keen to get a deal over the line”.
“Rosie is a composed player who has great technical ability. She also has a fantastic range of passing and is a direct and purposeful striker who will score and make goals for the team. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with Rosie and taking her game to the next level.”
And you can see Rosie in action, along with the rest of the team, next Sunday (8th August) as we face Hamilton Academical in the SWPL Cup (12.30pm kick off) at Ainslie Park Stadium. Ticket and ground access details to follow shortly.
