Spartans bow out in Scottish Cup mixed bag for SWPL sides

Spartans bowed out of the Scottish Cup against holders Glasgow City at Ainslie Park in a day that saw a cricket score, an SWPL scalp and a withdrawal in the 2nd Round of the national competition.

Katie Reilly handed the Captain’s armband to keeper Rachel Harrison after being forced to sit out the game due to injury.  Harrison was herself returning to the side following a spell on the sideline. (more…)

Lady luck deserts Spartans as Pullar pinches points for Students

Screen Shot 2014-01-04 at 16.13.12Spartans will head into an Edinburgh Derby pre-split final day showdown against Hearts in two weeks time, knowing they will need a win to secure Top 6 status after the summer recess following Stirling’s smash and grab win at Ainslie Park.

With Rachel Harrison losing her late fitness test battle, it was a return between the sticks for teenager keeper Eartha Cumings, who had secured clean sheets in her previous two SWPL outings so far this season. (more…)

McCulloch seeks sterling effort in Stirling University challenge

Debbi01Manager Debbi McCulloch will be looking for her Spartans side to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they welcome Stirling Uni to Ainslie Park for Round 9 of the SWPL campaign.

In what is the penultimate fixture of the opening round of fixtures pre-split, Spartans enter the game looking for a win that will secure a place in the Top 6 in the second half of the season. (more…)

Carpe Diem! Fish is Blackburn’s Nemo-sis as striker nets four

EMMASpartans Reserves made their way along the M8 to Blackburn on Gala Day Sunday in their penultimate fixture before the summer break, writes Kayleigh McNeill.

Blackburn were first off the mark after a lack of communication at the back forced Charlotte Ferguson into a 1 on 1 save but unable to rescue the rebound in time to stop the home side taking an early lead. (more…)

Derby day blues as Spartans are gone with the wind

Spartans fell to a 3-0 scoreline that flattered the hosts at a blustery Albyn Park on Sunday as Hibs won the opening SWPL Edinburgh Derby of the 2015 season.

Louise Mason become just the 8th player to pull on the Spartans jersey for the 100th occasion in a side that saw the return of Kirsty McLaughlin to the starting XI.

The Broxburn wind machine was switched to high as kick-off, with the conditions set to have an impact throughout the course of the 90 minutes ahead. (more…)

Spartans eye up derby win with SWPL summer split in sight

2O2A9857Spartans head to Albyn Park on Sunday in what promises to be another enthralling Edinburgh Derby against Hibernian.

The two teams locked horns in the SWPL Cup in April and it required a penalty shoot-out to separate the sides after a pulsating tie that finished 2-2 at the end of extra time. (more…)
