Scottish Cup draw throws up away days for McCulloch & McGill

Debbi01Debbi McCulloch’s SWPL side have been handed an away tie at Cowdenbeath for the second year in a row after the draw was made for Round 2 of the Scottish Cup on Monday.

The reward for Walter McGill and his Reserves for their emphatic 12-o win over Forfar Farmington Ladies is an away trip to SWPL side Inverness.

McCulloch commented, “It’s deja vu for the girls as we played Cowdenbeath in the 3rd Round last season, coming away with a victory last August.

“I understand that they won their opening round tie 0-32 so they’ve certainly got a goal scoring threat and we’ll have to work hard if we want be successful across the bridge.

“Taking nothing away from Cowdenbeath, but I’m happy that we’ve managed to avoid another SWPL side in the early stages.  Hopefully this can allow us to make progress in the Cup however we’ll continue to focus on cementing our Top 6 place before the tie.”

Meanwhile, the Reserves face a long Sunday morning journey up the A9 to take on Inverness City.

McCulloch’s side scored 11 without reply in last weekend’s SWPL clash however she has sounded a cautious warning to Interim-Coach Walter McGill ahead of the trip North.

“I don’t really know if Walter can learn that much from the video analysis of our game as City were missing some of their key players and of course if they hadn’t been reduced to 10 players after half an hour they would’ve been a far stronger test for us.  The side will have to be careful too as the game is likely to be on grass and the weather can be fairly unpredictable too.

“However, I know Walter has been working extremely hard with the squad and producing fantastic results on and off the pitch and looking at the draw, this is certainly one of the potential cup shocks of the round.”

McCulloch joked, “I’ll sit down with Walter and impart whatever advice I can, but I’m not sure how much he listens to me anyway.”

McGill added, “This will be a fantastic challenge for our team to play against a Premier League side and one that I and the team are looking forward to.”
