Spartans Bolster Defence With New Recruit Ryan

The club is delighted to announce that Lisa Ryan has became manager Debbi McCulloch’s latest signing after agreeing a deal for the forthcoming season at Ainslie Park Stadium. The experienced 26 year-old defender, featured for Forfar Farmington last term in SWPL 1 and previously played for Sheffield United F.C. in the FA Women’s Championship and Little Rock Rangers in the WPSL.

Speaking to Spartans FC Women, Ryan said: “I am thrilled to sign for Spartans. They are a strong, competitive team, and I was impressed with their performance last season. After talking with Debbi, and hearing more about the club and their aspirations for the upcoming season, I couldn’t wait to sign and get started.”

Having trained with Spartans over the past few weeks, Ryan has found Spartans life to be a positive experience. She said: “Since joining Spartans all the coaches and players have been very welcoming. They have a great set up, with high performance facilities and experienced players, coaches and background staff. The training has been very professional and competitive, where high standards are demanded from everyone, which in turn will challenge and develop me as a player. I think it’s going to be a great environment for me to grow and develop as a player.”

“I am looking forward to playing in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 again this season as it gives me an opportunity to play with and compete against top quality opposition. I am excited for a new challenge with Spartans and can’t wait for the season to start.”

Spartans Manager Debbi McCulloch added: “Lisa is a physical and mobile centre back who is good in possession and suits the way we want to play.  After Bobbie Beveridge announced her retirement from the game at the end of last season, recruiting an experienced centre back was a main priority for us. Lisa ticked all the boxes we were looking for and has fitted really well into our squad. I have no doubt she will make our team stronger and have a positive influence in achieving our goals on and off the pitch this season.”

Welcome to Spartans Lisa!
