SWPL side head West whilst Reserves face South

Logo1For just the second time this month, Spartans go into SWPL battle as they head to Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium to take on Glasgow City.

Debbi McCulloch’s side will be looking to continue where they left off earlier this month when goals from Alana Marshall and Sarah Ewens gave Spartans a 2-0 win over Rangers at Ainslie Park.

City may have the upper hand in terms of head to head battles so far this season but McCulloch’s side ran the league leaders close last time out when Lady Luck clearly hadn’t included the Academy on her tour of duty that day.

Despite no league games since the 6th, Goalkeeper Eartha Cumings has been busy between the sticks, representing Scotland at the familiar surroundings of her home (astro) turf against Ireland.  The shot-stopper has also been called up to Pauline Hamill’s Under 17s side for their forthcoming EURO qualifiers in Kazakhstan.

With just four games of the domestic campaign to go, three of which are on the road, a win would keep the gap over 6th place Rangers who entertain next week’s opposition Aberdeen at Benburb.

SWPL Fixtures:

Top 6:
Glasgow City v Spartans
Hibs v Celtic
Rangers v Aberdeen

Bottom 6:
Inverness v Forfar
Hutchison Vale v Stirling Uni
Hamilton v Hearts
Meanwhile, at the Academy, there is a Noon start for Lynsey Cowan’s Reserves who set out to continue their push for promotion when they entertain Edinburgh South in the SWFL. After a well earned 0-3 win against 3rd place Hearts last Sunday, a victory at home will be the only thing on Cowan’s mind.
